Episode 1 Recap & Spoilers

+++Trigger warning: physical abuse of a child

***Mature content

A young Kim Eun Mi lounges on the beach in her bikini top and shorts, checking out hot guys in speedos. Little Kim Jin Hee sits next to her mother wearing her swimming goggles and pool float. Eun Mi glances at her daughter and tells her to go play. Jin Hee refuses because she knows the second she leaves, her mother will be “playing” with those men. They eat fried chicken on the beach.

The scene flashes to the present time. Eun MI and Jin Hee are much older, reminiscing about that time and drinking beers. Eun Mi is still checking out the young guys and tries to convince Jin Hee to go to a club.

Later that night, Jin Hee hears a woman scream that her child is being kidnapped. She quickly trips the women dragging the child and calls the police. Another woman rounds the corner with a broom and starts beating the woman on the ground. Jin Hee grabs the broom from the women and the woman tries to beat her. Eun MI rounds the corner and grabs the woman’s hair who is attacking her daughter. The child runs to the woman on the floor and hugs her. The woman lifts the child’s shirt and shows the crowd her bruises.

Jin Hee leaves the police station after filing a complaint against them. They return her badge and take note of her name. Eun Mi is annoyed that the movie is sold out. They get tteokbokki instead. Jin Hee wonders how a family member can abuse a child. Her mother tells her sometimes strangers are better than blood relatives. Meanwhile, a news broadcast reports on the attempted kidnapping and abuse, criticizing the police for denying the woman an order of protection multiple times.

The next day, there are reporters outside Jin Hee’s police station. Demotion announcements are on the horizon. Everyone gets quiet when Jin Hee walks into her department. It turns out Lieutenant Jin Hee was demoted to satisfy the press and overall criticism of the police force. They tell her she just needs to take a different post for a year and it will all blow over. Jin Hee hears an old woman crying and gives her advice on free legal help. Everyone warns Jin Hee to be obedient and not cause any trouble when she’s transferred. The press swarm her as she leaves, causing her to drop her box of stuff.

Jin Hee returns home to a dark house. The fan is running and an inappropriate film plays on the screen. Her mother is on the floor pleasing herself. When she spots Jin Hee, she pulls up her underwear and asks if she wants to order chicken. Jin Hee leaves the house immediately and meets up with her former co-worker, Tae Gyeong for some beer. Tae Gyeong asks is she’s okay and starts criticizing the police department for demoting Jin Hee. Jin Hee ignores her and asks her if she’s ever caught her mother masturbating and why can’t she just get a man? At her age, it’s weird. Lately, her mother has been acting wild and strange, like she’s having a midlife crisis. She’s bought sexy clothes and gel breast inserts for her bra. She wonders if she should just get her mom a toy because she was using her hand. Tae Gyeong spits her beer on Jin Hee. Everyone is starring at them.

On the bus home, a girl accidentally hits Jin Hee in the head. She’s the typical popular mean girl. She tells Jin Hee she has an annoying face. Jin Hee thinks back to her mom in high school. It flashes back to her mom, smoking cigarettes, the main bully’s #1 minion. Eun Mi had a crush on her best friend’s brother and had sex. She got pregnant with Jin Hee and the boyfriend ran out on her, leaving Eun Mi pregnant and alone.

Jin Hee lies to her mother and tells her she took the day off. She claims she has plans when her mother asks her to see a movie. Eun Mi notices that her panties keep going missing. Jin Hee comes out to check her laundry from the previous day and sees her mother mixed colors with white clothing. They begin to struggle over the clothes and Jin Hee’s panties fly over the balcony, landing on the head of a cyclist passing by. Jin Hee shouts at him to leave it alone and that she’ll come get it. Jin Hee runs downstairs and is startled to find that it’s Eun Jae Won, her senior from when she was training in the police academy. He looks her up and down in her pajamas and sandals and tells her she hasn’t changed. He rides away. Jin Hee is horrified that he might work at the new station that she’s being transferred to-the one closest to her house.

Eun Mi heads to work. She’s a lead massage therapist. Several elderly ladies are waiting for her to open the office. They complain about how late she is.

Jin Hee gets dressed and scopes out the local police station. She spots Jae Won. The scene flashes back to her time in the police academy and her butting heads with Jae Won.

Eun Mi listens to all the elderly ladies complaints and perverse comments as she performs the physical therapies. She gets yelled at by her boss for buying liquid soap. He lectures her about pleasing the customers and how she needs to be more aware of their demands.

She begs her former boss to transfer her anywhere else. She does not want to deal with Jae Won. He tells her she’ll regret it.

Jin Hee returns home to her mom sleeping on the couch with a face mask on. The next morning Eun MI wakes up to the mask cemented to her face and she can’t get it off. Jin Hee tries to help and Eun Mi hits her repeatedly until Jin Hee wets a towel and puts it on her face. Eun MI asks her why she’s been ignoring her. Jin Hee asks her mother why she has to do “that” at home and why she can’t just date a man? Her mother laughs and tells Jin Hee it’s not like she doesn’t do “that” too. Jin Hee argues that she never got caught. Her mother laughs at her and asks if she really thinks that’s true? Now Jin Hee is really uncomfortable. Her mother tells her to think about it and leaves, snidely telling Jin Hee that she hates hypocrites.

Jin Hee takes her mother shopping at an adult store. Eun Mi shows Jin Hee all the toys and laughs. They go to a movie after. Jin Hee falls asleep and Eun Mi props her head up.

Jin Hee arrives to her new station the next day. She introduces herself as Lieutenant Jin Hee, leader of safety patrol team 2. They all basically stop their laughing and ignore her. Jin Hee learns that when she filed a complaint against the officers that didn’t give the order of protection, it was this police station and two other officers got demoted because of Jin Hee. Soo Jin, the leader of management team is the only one who talks to her, everyone else gives her the cold shoulder.

Eun Mi discovers Jin Hee has been demoted and is angry that Jin Hee didn’t tell her.

Jin Hee is faced with the bleak reality that Jae Won is the head of her new station. He pulls her into the office and she tells him she’ll work hard. He’s dismissive. He basically tells her to stop being defiant and if she tries to defy him, she’ll have to deal with the consequences. She’s a naive person who relies on book smarts. He leaves and slams the door. Jin Hee bangs her head against the door in the bathroom. She laughs at how stupid she was to beg her former boss to switch her transfer spot.

Jin Hee arrives home with a bunch of beer. Her mother asks if she has anything to tell her?If she thinks she’s a pushover? Jin Hee remarks that she’s an idiot for trying to talk to her. Eun Mi throws Jin Hee’s badge at her.

Thoughts

This show is ridiculously funny.
Jeon Hye Jin and Choi Soo Young have such great mother-daughter chemistry. It’s impossible not to laugh several times and it only gets more funny.

It’s quirky and a little perverse but hilarious. If you’re looking for a show to cheer you up and make you feel lighthearted after so many heavy dramas, this is it.

In the ten years since their forced separation, both Song Yan and Xu Qin have worked hard to build the life they’ve always wanted. As fire chief, Song Yan has dedicated his life to saving others. Episode 29 Recap

+++Contains spoilers

Xu Qin eats dinner at home with Song Yan’s aunt and uncle. As much as they are trying to make her feel comfortable, it still feels forced. Xu Qin is not the talkative type and she’s trying to be overly polite to their kindness. Song Yan is at the station and Zhai Miao is job hunting. Song Yan’s uncle tries to ease the tension by passing around beer for everyone.

Xu Qin’s brother, Meng Yan Chen, sits in his office, frustrated. He looks out the window at the city and starts to shoot off a text but stops. Instead, he receives a text from Ye Zi claiming he broke a vase last time he was at her house. Yan Chen and Ye Zi attend a symphony together. Ye Zi cries at the performance. When it ends, Ye Zi stands to leave but Yan Chen is not ready yet. He asks if he broke the vase when he was drunk and how much it costs. Ye Zi then lies and says it wasn’t him. The vase isn’t worth much compared to the cost of the symphony ticket. Yan Chen tells her that the original person couldn’t attend so it would have been a wasted ticket. She asks about who the ticket was for, but he ignores her. Ye Zi attempts to invite him to a live house event, but he declines. She tells him he probably wouldn’t like it because it’s for young people. He tells her that provoking him doesn’t work. She further argues that some people look so cold that they seem lifeless. Yan Chen asks if she’s talking about herself? He tells her she’s young but she’s not energetic. She effectively asks him to prove it. He could but he doesn’t want to. Ye Zi receives a phone call from her roommates asking her to come study. On the drive back to her dorm, Ye Zi tries to make small talk. She opens the mirror to adjust her hair and sees a picture of Xu Qin with her hair down and leaves it to look more like her. She turns to Yan Chen and talks about how grateful she was to see the symphony. She used to think they were high class and not for her. She asks if he plays instruments and tells him he has an aura that says so. He admits most children learn instruments for their parents; he plays the piano and cello. Ye Zi has always been envious of those who can play instruments because people are always looking forward towards things they can’t have. Yan Chen gets quiet and effectively ends the conversation.

Song Yan calls Xu QIn. He tells her about Xiao Meng (the fire station dog) doing well at the training. She teases that he definitely named the dog for her. He confesses that he feels unsettled because she’s home without him. She tells him that the bed and pillows all smell like him. He tells her to be good. They hang up with a smile.

Yan Chen returns home. He stares at the preserved butterfly Xu Qin gave him.

Yan Chen picks up Xu Qin. Their mother called him and told him Qin abandoned their family. She denies this. He tells her she’s being delusional. She knows how their mother is. Since she chose Song Yan, she has given up on the family. Qin asks him what he wants her to do? Break up with Song Yan and beg their mother for forgiveness? He tells her not to do that and that he’s not on her side. He asks if she’s happy? She’s happy when she’s with Song Yan. He says he’ll wait to see how long she stays happy. She protests. She asks him to help her talk to mom and ask for forgiveness. He refuses and says he would never help her. She asks if he’s happy seeing her in this state? He throws back that she got Song Yan, what is there to be sorry about? Yan Chen drives off. Qin texts him and wishes him happiness.

Ye Zi invites Yan Chen to live house. He proceeds to get drunk. He doesn’t like the atmosphere. She tells him he packages himself up “nice and tight”. He doesn’t want to open up to anyone. He admits he likes butterflies. He dreamed of becoming and entomologist. Ye Zi asks if she can see his collection. He rejects her. She asks why he didn’t become an entomologist and he asks if she’s doing what she loves? She’s studying biology and she loves it, but she’s bad at it. She doesn’t have good chances for recruitment. She asks if he thinks she should get plastic surgery? She gets closer to him and points to her features. The music changes as they stare at each other. He backs away.

Zhai Miao and Ye Zi get into a fight. Ye Zi has been ignoring Zhai Miao’s calls and Miao feels that she’s working so hard at their business and Ye Zi isn’t putting in enough effort. Ye Zi claims she will quit all her part-time jobs.

The fire stations are competing against each other for best fire station. A montage of different fire tasks and physical fitness tests flash across the scene. Song Yan calls Suo Jun to show him the Guardian Cup trophy the station won. He’s proud of Song Yan. They achieved their dream.

Xu QIn and Song Yan continue to work their respective jobs apart. Time passes. They barely text. Barely call.

Yan Chen overhears girls talking about influencers getting too much plastic surgery. He texts Ye Zi and invites her to dinner. Their dinner is private. He asks her why she came if she already paid him back for the symphony. She jokes that there are two things you can never give up on-delicious food and love.

Thoughts

As far as episodes go, this one was super boring. Things are definitely slowing down. I hope there’s some sort of dramatic twist or tragedy to change the pace in the next episode because it’s really lagging. Xu Qin and Song Yan had barely any interaction. Yan Chen is so ridiculously bland and so is Ye Zi. On one hand, it’s interesting that their relationship is developing, despite his resistance and that it parallels the forbidden relationship that Xu QIn formed with Song Yan. On the other hand, it’s unbearably dull. If I didn’t enjoy the series up until this point, I would consider dropping it.

Also, there’s a very creepy and large painting of Audrey Hepburn on the wall of the restaurant Ye Zi and Yan Chen are at that is so off-putting it makes the whole scene awkward.

Episode 30 Recap

+++contains spoilers

Ye Zi and Yan Chen’s food is delivered. A random business man happens upon them and interrogates Yan Chen about Ye Zi. He then proceeds to sit down at their table to finish their business deal. He wants to create a one stop shop where young influencers can get a loan to fund their plastic surgery. Yan Chen asks Ye Zi if this would be a profitable business. She agrees. But then calls it opportunistic. Yan Chen rejects the businessman. Ye Zi questions if the whole thing was a set up because she asked about plastic surgery. He denies it. Xu Qin calls and he abandons Ye Zi at the dinner table.

Yan Chen picks up his parents’ medication from Xu Qin. He learns that she’s been taking the subway to work and cycling from the house. He scoffs at her life, angry that this is all Song Yan can give her. Yan Chen returns home and asks his mother why their family has to be this way. Xu Qin is a grown adult, she can’t be controlled forever. Yan Chen’s mother asks if he’s really talking about Xu Qin or himself? She argues that Xu Qin is like a child throwing a tantrum. Qin can be stubborn over anything but her marriage. Eventually she’ll return.

Xu Qin is suddenly invited shopping with her mother. She tells Song Yan she can’t spend the weekend with him anymore.

Xu Qin and her mother go shopping. They sit in a VIP lounge and are shown all the latest expensive bags. Her mother smirks while Xu Qin looks uncomfortable. She can no longer afford the bags.

Meanwhile, Zhai Miao and Song Yan peruse the mall. He hands her a donut and browses the red lipsticks, joking that little girls like Zhai Miao don’t need red. She argues that all Song Yan thinks about is Xu Qin and she’s just like a forgotten stray dog.

Xu Qin’s mother tells her that she’s testing her patience and she will never agree. Xu Qin looks miserable. Mrs. Meng leads Xu Qin to the car and introduces Xu Qin to a handsome man named Hun Yan. It’s clear what her intentions are.

Just as Xu Qin seems resigned to get in the car, Zhai Miao calls out “sister in-law”! Hun Yan is confused. Mrs. Meng insists Qin doesn’t have a boyfriend. Qin makes her choice and claims Song Yan in front of her mother. She confesses her love to Song Yan. She tells him she will love him forever and from this point on, will never let him down. Song Yan takes her hand and bows to Mrs. Meng. Mrs. Meng gets in the car and drives off. Song Yan takes Qin in his arms and tells her that he knows it was hard, but that he’ll go with her every time she has to go to her parent’s house.

Song Yan and team get called to a fire at a warehouse. The owner claims there are only expensive planks inside. Jiang Yu leads the team on the second floor. An explosion occurs, setting him on fire and throwing him off the balcony onto the first floor. Song Yan rushes to his aid. Miraculously, he’s fine. Later, Song Yan finds Jiang Yu sitting alone. Jiang Yu is scared. They talk about death and fear, and how they have something more important to hang onto–living.

Xu Qin arrives to work to find a group of people protesting the hospital, specifically Dr. Yang. A patient died the previous day and they’re seeking an investigation. Qin finds Dr. Yang alone on the rooftop. Dr. Yang explains what happened. The girl (Li Rong) came in vomiting huge amounts of blood. She required immediate surgery or she would die. They called the girl’s family over (her husband and mother-in-law) and they were asked for permission to perform the surgery. The first question out of the mother’s mouth was how much the surgery would cost? Dr. Yang told her, thousands. The mother claimed that Li Rong had these issues all the time and couldn’t she just give her a drip? Dr. Yang, clearly shocked, tells her that without surgery her daughter will be 100% dead. With surgery, there’s a 10% chance of survival. The family says they need time to think about it. Dr. Yang tells them it needs to be quick. The scene flashes to the mother-in-law and son. He wants to pay the fee but his mother tells him it is a lot of money and she hasn’t even given him a child. Meanwhile, the Li Rong’s brother shows up and the doctor rushes through the door asking them to make a decision-it is critical now. They sign the papers. Dr. Yang can’t save the girl. They wheel out the body. Dr. Yang collapses on the floor, crying. Qin tells Dr. Yang in the present that she’s seen the surgery records and she’s done nothing wrong. Doctors are humans, not gods.

Li Rong’s mother-in-law and husband have climbed to the rooftop and are threatening to jump.

Thoughts

It’s like they read my mind. A lot more drama this time. I loved Xu Qin finally sticking up for herself and actively choosing Song Yan in front of her mother. Her confession to Song Yan was sweet and heartfelt. Honestly, I think Zhai MIao is my favorite character. I adore the interactions between her and Song Yan, it brings a lightness to the show and feels like real siblings.

Recap

Episode 28 Recap with Spoilers: Xu Qin is headed to her parents house for dinner. Song Yan calls to offer her a ride. She rejects him because her mother will ask questions. He tells her not to miss him too much in his typical flirty way.

Zhai Miao, Song Yan’s younger cousin, teases him by saying “I’ll miss you”. Song Yan puts her in a headlock and Zhai Miao struggles to get out. Eventually he lets go and she smacks him for messing up his hair. She asks for Song Yan’s opinion on two photos of her friend. Song Yan claims they’re both the same. Zhai Miao accuses him of being an inattentive guy and Xu Qin would be furious if she asked his opinion and responded that way. Song Yan threatens to tell his aunt what Zhai Miao has been up to if she doesn’t give him a massage.

Xu Qin sits down to eat with her mom and dad. Her mom makes pointed small talk about how she hasn’t been home and her brother seems to have something bothering him. Her father thinks she’s lost weight. Her mom wants both of her children to get married so grandchildren can make the house lively again. Xu Qin confesses that she’s seeing someone, that it’s barely been a month. Her mother tells Xu Qin to break up with him, but Xu Qin is not backing down. She tells her mother that she’s known him for 10 years and they dated when she was in college. Finally, she reveals it is Song Yan. Her mother throws down her soup spoon and sighs. Xu Qin’s parents reject Song Yan, claiming he is a troublemaker and his parents are even worse. Xu Qin argues that his parent’s troubles have nothing to do with him. He’s a good person.

Her father claims that she’s blinded by love. He could be deceiving her. His status is not compatible with hers. He doesn’t have an educational background, money, or good family background. He is unsuitable for her. Her father gives her an analogy. He says that all Song Yan can do is take her to street food stalls and he couldn’t afford the French cuisine Xu Qin likes. Xu Qin tells her parents she has made up her mind; she doesn’t need anything but the food Song Yan cooks for her. She wants to get married and start a family.

Her mother accuses Song Yan of putting Xu Qin under a spell. Her father says that he will feel guilty and like a failure to Xu Qin’s biological parents if her marriage with Song Yan fails.

Xu Qin knows her parents don’t trust Song Yan, but can’t they trust her? Her father starts to get agitated and claims that Song Yan can’t take care of her financially and Yan is the only one who will benefit. Xu Qin starts to tear up. Xu Qin benefits the most because he makes her happy. She just wants to be happy. It doesn’t matter if she has to give up things or they face problems in the future. She has always obeyed them and she just wants this one thing.

Her mother gives her an ultimatum-her family or Song Yan? Xu Qin starts to cry and asks why it has to be this way? It can’t be Song Yan, only someone with similar background.

Xu Qin puts her house and car keys on the table and stands up. She tells them they’ll always be her parents, even if she’s driven out. She will try to get them to forgive her. Her mother storms away from the table. Her father cries and says she broke his heart before leaving as well.

Song Yan’s aunt tells him that she and her husband have no problem with him dating Qin. Many things have happened between their families that Qin may not know about and she worries that there is too much underlying resentment. Song Yan doesn’t want to think about the past–he only wants to cherish the present and that is enough. His uncle tells him life is meaningless if you live with someone you don’t love. He fears that Qin won’t be able to withstand the pressure from her family and will break Yan’s heart again. But Song Yan knows Qin and once she has made up her mind, she’s resolved and Yan will never let go of her hand ❤

Song Yan receives a phone call from Qin. He finds her crying on a bridge. He wraps her in a hug as she cries. Xu Qin doesn’t want to talk about what happened and refuses to go back to her house. So Song Yan grabs her hand and invites her back to his home. Once they get there, Qin is given house keys and Yan tells her if she feels uncomfortable to let her know. The whole family welcomes her and they sit down to eat dinner. Song Yan announces that Qin in moving in and they’re getting married. The family tells her that she’s welcome and Zhai Miao even offers to help her move.

Song Yan and Xu Qin get ready for bed and find that Yan’s aunt put two blankets on the bed for them so they stay separated. Meanwhile, Yan’s uncle had neighbors bring over a bunch of wood to make Qin a dressing table. In bed, Xu Qin asks how good the soundproofing in the house is. Song Yan teases her by asking her to scratch his back. She decides to tickle him instead and they laugh the night away.

A happy montage of Song Yan cooking Qin breakfast, the family all eating together and laughing. Qin can’t stop smiling.

Song Yan and Zhai Miao help Xu Qin pack up her house the next day. Zhai Miao is impressed with how huge the house is and wonders how much it costs. She questions Xu Qin when she sees her packing so little. Xu Qin tells her almost everything was bought by her mother and only a few things are actually hers. She is only taking a couple things. Zhai Miao tries to reassure her by saying that she used to hate Qin the most, but now she is part of the family and when she becomes rich, she will buy Qin all the bags she’s leaving behind.

Song Yan and Xu Qin go bed shopping. They test out every bed and stare deeply into each other’s eyes until they find the perfect one, but it’s going to take 2 weeks and they can’t continue to sleep on the floor. Song Yan calls in the firefighters to move the bed. They begin to refer to Xu Qin as Mrs.Song. They proceed to move the bed from the store to Song Yan’s house.

Later that day, the bed is finally installed and Xu Qin is cleaning. Song Yan picks her up and tells her to take a break and watch him work. A flashback to when they were young and Song Yan tells Qin that he will dote on her for the rest of her life when she adds her name to his family register. Qin smiles and says he must have meant what he said.

Song Yan has to return to the fire station and they can barely stand to leave each other. They hug and share a sweet kiss goodbye.

Thoughts

Xu Qin and Song Yan are so much happier now. They’re constantly smiling and flirty. They tease each other and their happiness is almost infectious. You can’t help but smile because they’re so ridiculously cute. Plus, they’re just gorgeous together. It makes your eyes happy 🙂

The moment Song Yan runs up to Xu Qin crying on the bridge and she reaches out her arms for him to hug her. How could you not fall in love with Song Yan?

This whole episode is full of sweet couple moments and little bursts of happiness in their every day life. It really shows for the first time how comfortable Xu Qin is with Song Yan and how they both can finally relax with one another.

I adore Zhai Miao and Song Yan’s bond. They truly act like really close siblings, constantly teasing each other. Zhai Miao has a big heart.

Episode 1 Recap with Spoilers: Ho Rang is doing a live broadcast. She’s reading anonymous letters sent in by individuals requesting her help. Everyone in school and on social media (her 200k followers) are watching as she delivers blunt and brutal advice to a girl trying to get over her ex. Ho Rang reads the live comments, when suddenly a threat comes in. Phones start going off across the audience. A link is posted that will “reveal Ho Rang’s truth”.

One month earlier…Baek Ho Rang is a school icon and fashionista. With 170k followers, everyone is checking out her Instagram for her latest designer clothes.

The school broadcasting team rushes to get ready for the first day of school. Hee Soo is missing. Eun Taek (head of the broadcasting team) begins to give orders over walkie.

Girls walk into class whispering about Ho Rang’s arrogance. Yoo Shin (her male friend) tells her to relax or people will really think she’s a snob. A pretty girl in a pink cardigan (Jae Yi) rushes in just before the bell and steals Yoo Shin’s drink. Yoo Shin gets a dreamy look on his face as So Hyeon (the girl on the school broadcast) delivers the morning announcements.

Ho Rang gets a text asking if she confirmed the deposit.

Eun Taek holds a meeting with the broadcasting group. They’re still looking for an announcer after Eun Taek “fired” the last one. Eun Taek insists that she quit. The scene flashes back to the previous announcer confessing her feelings for Eun Taek over the live broadcast. He accuses her of having false intentions. She claimed she dreamed of being an announcer. She lied. He tells her to leave. The team suggests they try to recruit Ho Rang to bring more popularity to their broadcasting club.

Ho Rang hears girls gossiping about her and then gets notification of a fake Face account. The girl with the fake account (Hye Rim) is exposed to the school. She confronts Ho Rang and asks if she’s having fun. Ho Rang says that she never exposed her and can even keep the the account. Hye Rim knocks into her and tells her that no one likes her. Ho Rang’s phone drops. Ho Rang demands that Hye Rim move-she doesn’t like sharing the same space as a fake. Then she takes Hye Rim’s phone and drops it.

Eun Taek asks Ho Rang to join the broadcast club. She denies him. He insists that she’s exactly as he heard and if she behaves so rudely no one will like her. Ho Rang tells him that he is just angry because he got rejected. Really he is trying to use her and isn’t that more rude? He needs to stay in his lane with the nobodies and stop pissing her off.

Ho Rang and Eun Taek ride the same bus. Ho Rang falls asleep listening to music. Eun Taek leans over her to close the window. She wakes up and stares into his eyes. He claims that he told her to close the window but she wouldn’t listen. She opens the window he just closed.

Ho Rang gets another text. “I’ll show you soon. You just wait”. Yoo Shin plans to interview for the broadcasting club so he can see So Hyeon. Yoo Shin begs Ho Rang to give him money to buy So Hyeon a drink.

So Hyeon reads a story over the intercom, wishing someone a happy almost birthday. Talking about the birthday they celebrated 2 years ago at MJ Karaoke. Ho Rang drops her drink in shock. The person prepared a birthday gift. Ho Rang starts to hyperventilate and runs to hide. The scene flashes back to the party from 2 years ago.

The broadcasting club holds interviews for the new announcer. Ho Rang tosses her application in front of Eun Taek. Ho Rang claims that she joined because she wants a job in the field and it will look good on her record. So Hyeon asks if she has any other intentions for joining? Ho Rang asks about the anonymous stories and if she will have access to them.

Woo Sol shows up to Woo Jae and Jae Yi’s date. They’re good friends. Woo Sol asks about Ho Rang. Jae Yi tells her that she has a nasty personality. Sol and Jae Yi go shopping together.

Ho Rang finally calls Eun Taek late at night. He tells her to come to the station at 12:30 tomorrow. Ho Rang shows up late. Eun Taek and Ho Rang face off. He tells her to leave if she’s going to waste time. Ho Rang apologizes and promises to do better tomorrow. Ho Rang asks if she has access to the stories. Eun Taek says only he and So Hyeon do because they are anonymous. Ho Rang starts to argue. He demands that Ho Rang go wash the mops. Ho Rang calls him a “prick” while washing.

Hye Rim is too embarrassed to come to school after her fight with Ho Rang. She gets a message from a random number asking if she wants to know the words that Ho Rang hates the most?

Ho Rang asks Eun Taek if he will let her have access to the account with the stories? He tells her it depends on how well she performs.

Yoo Shin buys So Hyeon snacks and tells her to answer his Face messages.

At the bus stop after school, So Hyeon reads the anonymous stories. Ho Rang walks by. So Hyeon asks if Ho Rang wants to know who submitted the story and if her reason for joining the broadcasting club is related to it? Ho Rang counters with asking why So Hyeon is acting so close to her? She demands that So Hyeon cut her interest in her. The scene flashes back to Ho Rang and So Hyeon hanging out in the past and a keychain from that party 2 years ago.

A montage of Eun Taek walking in on Ho Rang cleaning the broadcasting studio. Ho Rang tells him to make sure he keeps his promise about the stories. Eun Taek starts to look at Ho Rang differently. He’s surprised by her. Eun Taek overhears to younger members of the broadcasting club talking about how Ho Rang bribed them to do all the work and she would take credit for it in exchange for stuff from her sponsors and mentions.

Yoo Shin shows Ho Rang a social media post from Hye Rim. Ho Rang is about to blow it off when she reaches the last sentence asking if she loves the number 16.

Ho Rang storms into the broadcasting station and grabs the microphone. She tells whoever is threatening her to come say it to her face.

The epilogue goes back to the scene on the bus with Eun Taek and Ho Rang. He closed the window because the wind was blowing up her skirt and he wanted to be a gentleman.

Thoughts: I’m not sure if there’s something sketchy about So Hyeon or it’s just a past friendship that fell apart. Ho Rang is a great character. She’s so prickly and offensive but somehow still likable. Her past and the threat of exposure kind of makes you feel for her. Everyone has something they want to forget. Jae Yi or Jae Lee, whichever, is super cute. I love her character. She’s fierce but also adorable. Eun Taek and Ho Rang are very much alike in some ways, they’re pretty much destined to be a couple. The chemistry is already there in their heated interactions, stare offs, and harsh words to each other. I’ll definitely continue this one.

A fire breaks out in the building and everyone rushes to the roof, then down the staircase. Su Ho shields Ju Gyeong from the crowd threatening to knock into her. At the bus stop, Su Ho thinks about Seo Jun’s words about killing a friend and that he doesn’t deserve to smile. Ju Gyeong tells Su Ho that tears can clean your heart and that it’s okay to cry once in a while; he doesn’t need to pretend to be okay.

The scene flashes back to Seo Jun listening to the argument between Su Ho and Ju Gyeong.

Su Ho arrives home to find his father, Lee Ju Heon waiting for him outside. He asks Su Ho about the parent teacher conference and Su Ho tells him to leave. Ju Heon cleared his schedule and plans on attending.

Seo Jun returns home to find his sister eating ramen. He snags it from her and says he can’t get used to seeing her in make up. She says she can’t bear to take it off because Ju Gyeong helped her. She confessed to Seo Jun that some girls were bullying her because they were jealous and didn’t want her to perform. Seo Jun is outraged and asks for their names. She tells him that Ju Gyeong already took care of it.

The next day at school, Ju Gyeong spots Su Ho. They stare at each other. Ju Gyeong gets embarrassed and quickly walks away, right into Seo Jun’s path. Ju Gyeong raises her fist in Seo Jun’s face and threatens that if he keeps messing with her at school she “won’t let him go”.

Grades came out and Ju Gyeong’s got worse. The parent teacher conferences begin. Ju Gyeong’s mom talks to her homeroom teacher (sexy literature guy) and she gets so heated she turns on a mini fan, revealing the teacher’s missing eyebrows. She tells him not all hope is lost and hands him her business card. On the way out, Ju Gyeong calls to her mother, but her mom is mesmerized by the arrival of Lee Ju Heon. She abruptly quotes “I’ll buy you with my money”. She begs for his autograph. Ju Gyeong runs away, mortified. Everyone discovers that Su Ho’s father is a celebrity and the gossip begins to overrun the school. Su Ho confronts his father, calling him shameless for showing up at the school after he asked him not to. Meanwhile, Ju Gyeong’s mom comes running and cuts in on the conversation, asking for a picture to go along with her autograph.

The scene flashes back to Seo Jun at Se Yeon’s memorial. Seo Jun grabbed Lee Ju Heon by his suit and asked him if he really had to kick Se Yeon out? It was his job to protect him. Lee Ju Heon acknowledges that Seo Jun blames him for Se Yeon’s death. He asks if he looks like a charity case that takes care of kids.

Ju Gyeong’s mom takes all her make up and threatens to throw it in the trash.

Soo Jin washes her hands in the sink. She thinks back to her father slapping her across the face for ranking second. He tells her that losing is a habit and if she can’t beat Su Ho’s “vulgar family” how can she expect to get into medical school?

Go Woon asks to meet up with Ju Gyeong after school. She thanks her for helping her. The girls no longer bully her to her face but still talk about her behind her back. Go Woon tells Ju Gyeong that if she resents her own face because of what those bullies say, it’s like acknowledging that she thinks she’s ugly. Ju Gyeong wonders why she’s so afraid to live her life as she is? Go Woon asks Ju Gyeong to teach her how to do make up.

Seo Jun dances around the house in his underwear and pours water on his head, flipping his hair like he’s a member of BTS. He turns around and sees Ju Gyeong there. He freezes in his leopard print boxers. Go Woon tells him to put some clothes on. Seo Jun acts nonchalant and dances to his room, then throws himself on his bed, dead from embarrassment. Seo Jun chases after Ju Gyeong on her way out. He thanks her for caring for his sister. She tells him to say it again because she didn’t hear it properly. He says sorry. She says she’s the one that’s sorry because she saw everything-his underwear. She growls at him and runs away.

Ju Gyeong arrives home to see Su Ho in her kitchen. Her mother dragged him away from the comic book store and invited him over for dinner. Ju Gyeong accuses her of being the anti-fan of her life. Ju Gyeong’s brother interrogates Su Ho. He accuses him of using his sister’s weakness against her (knowledge of her bare face). Su Ho claims he’s not. Ju Gyeong’s brother asks if Su Ho has feelings for Ju Gyeong? Su Ho says yes. Her brother starts to hysterically laugh. Su Ho accidentally breaks their family table. Things get a little awkward. The siblings start to fight over the dinner table. Hee Gyung returns home drunk, trips over the extension cord, and takes out the power in the whole house. The family fumbles for their phones and Ju Gyeong discovers all of her family piled on top of Su Ho. Ju Gyeong wants to disappear.

Ju Gyeong heads to the sauna with her sister. She runs into Seo Jun and quickly tries to hide.

The literature teacher visits Ju Gyeong’s mom.

Su Ho hears a cellphone ringing on the bus and flashes back to the night Se Yeon died. He starts to panic and leans against the window. He stumbles off the bus, struggling to catch his breath.

Ju Gyeong runs into the store to get food for her and her sister. She is looking down at her phone and slams into the bullies from her previous school. She doesn’t have make up on. They recognize her. She starts to hit Ju Gyeong in the head and asks her what she’s going around telling people that they think she transferred schools because she was bullied? The leader trips her and she falls, dropping her wallet. Su Ho steps in before the girls can see her new school ID. He finds Ju Gyeong in the alleyway. She asks him if he helped her because he pities her? She asks why he set boundaries between them and then crossed them? He’s confusing her. Ju Gyeong begins to cry. He pulls her away and covers her with his jacket. He tells her Cha Rong and Seo Jun are there. She asks if they left (they have), but he lies and says they have not. He pulls her into a hug and tells her it’s okay. He puts his hat on her head and tells her not to get caught.

Hee Gyeong arrives home and spots her crush, Jun Woo, getting his eyebrows done. They recognize each other and he panics, jumping up from the table and fumbling to grab his shoes. Jun Woo runs out the door and in the path of an oncoming motorcycle. Hee Gyeong grabs him just in time and pulls him into a hug. She wipes off his eyebrow and tells him to take her umbrella. He covers her head with his hand because she’s getting wet in the rain. Hee Gyeong claims she can’t hold it in and is going to do bad things from now on. She tells him that if he’s scared he should run away. She grabs him by his collar and kisses him. She pulls up her hood and tells him to answer when she calls.

Su Ho enters the locked room in his house. It’s actually a recording studio complete with pictures of him, Seo Jun, and Se Yeon.

The next day, Seo Jun is looking at Ju Gyeong’s Instagram of her “pretending to be pretty” when she runs up to him singing about him looking “like Tarzan in 10 cent underwear” and growls at him again. Seo Jun looks bewitched. He swallows hard as she walks away.

The bullies and their boyfriends from Ju Gyeong’s former school skipped school to play pool. They’re mad the Seo Jun is still ignoring their phone calls. Someone says that Ju Gyeong is his girlfriend. The main girl bully says that’s the same name as the “dumpling” that used to go to their school.

Su Ho is absent from school. Ju Gyeong wonders if he got rained on, if he’s hurt or sick. Meanwhile, Seo Jun stares at Ju Gyeong.

Seo Jun and his mother hear her most recent bloodwork results. Everything is looking great after her transplant. The doctor mentions that he should be thanking Dr. Kang, who pushed his mother to the front of the line as a favor to his friend. Seo Jun storms out to find Dr. Kang.

Ju Gyeong is surrounded on all sides by the male bullies from her former school.

Seo Jun learns that it was Su Ho who came to Dr. Kang begging for him to save his friend’s mother. Seo Jun asks Su Ho why he did it? Su Ho counters that if Seo Jun were in the same position, he would have done the same because they are friends. Seo Jun gets a phone call from the bully. They have Ju Gyeong and are holding her captive in a karaoke bar.

Su Ho and Seo Jun rush off to find Ju Gyeong. Su Ho finds her first and literally jumps across the room and starts beating the bully up. Seo Jun starts to take on the bullies and Ju Gyeong’s friends arrive. They begin to attack. Ju Gyeong watches Su Ho, and Seo Jun watches her.

Thoughts: The emotions are definitely heating up. Seo Jun is falling hard for Ju Gyeong, but in some ways his relationship with Su Ho just started to get mildly better. If he starts fighting with him over Ju Gyeong, it might destroy their friendship. Seo Jun also knows how Su Ho feels about Ju Gyeong, but I think he’s also beginning to realize that she feels the same about Su Ho. He’s absolutely going to try to slide in though. This might be the turning point for everyone to finally start getting along. We will see.

I feel so bad for Soo Jin. The expectations and treatment from her father are horrible.

Again, I adore Ju Gyeong’s sister and her infatuation with that sweet, nerdy teacher ❤

Su Ho walks Ju Gyeong home and asks for the keys to Seo Jun’s motorcycle so he can get it away from her house.

Rumors spread the Su Ho is rejoining the basketball team. Some of the guys beg Seo Jun to join. He will only agree if Ju Gyeong approves. Ju Gyeong doesn’t care, so he agrees to play.

She thought she could make it with just her talent but knows everyone will laugh at her because she’s ugly. She says Ju Gyeong probably wouldn’t understand because she’s pretty. Ju Gyeong thinks she can relate to this girl more than anyone else. Later, Ju Gyeong watches make up tutorials to help Go Woon. Su Ho sees her at the bus stop and listens to Ju Gyeong talk about how she wants to help Go Woon. He tells her she’s nosy, but if it can help someone it’s good. He says she’s pretty without make up. They share a moment, looking into each other’s eyes. Ju Gyeong asks her online group what Su Ho’s strange behavior means. They tell her to ask him out. Ju Gyeong pretends that she has free movie tickets and asks him if he wants to go with her. He agrees. Ju Gyeong freaks out. Su Ho smiles. They continue to make plans over text messages.

Seo Jun calls Su Ho. They meet up and Seo Jun demands his key. Su Ho tells Seo Jun not to use Ju Gyeong to get back at him. Seo Jun asks if he’s worried he’ll steal her?

Ju Gyeong’s sister meets up with the hot literature teacher. She asks for her payment, but he has no cash. She says she would like to buy his time. They go out to dinner. They have a nice conversation. She tells him that he’s quite the handful and tries to wipe his lip. He spits his food on her. She says she can’t play hard to get, she likes him.

After the performance, Go Woon thanks Ju Gyeong and then calls her brother over-it’s Seo Jun. Ju Gyeong is shocked, but Soo Ah pulls her away asking for help. Ju Gyeong is given a pig costume and thinks it’s a good sign because of her dream.

Ju Gyeong meets Su Ho in the locker room. He tells her not to misunderstand him and he only acted like he liked her out of pity. Ju Gyeong asks if she’s pitiful because she got down on her knees and begged him not to reveal her bare face? He says yes, and now he’s tired of it. Ju Gyeong runs off and sobs in her pig costume.

The scene flashes back to Su Ho and Seo Jun’s conversation from the previous night. Su Ho asks how long Seo Jun is going to blame him for Se Yeon’s death. He says until Su Ho dies. Then he asks if Ju Gyeong knows that he killed a friend and if she would feel different about him if she found out? Back in the present time, Su Ho puts his head in his hands.

Su Ho and Seo Jun face off in the basketball game. Su Ho’s team wins. Afterwards, he tells Seo Jun that everything is his fault and to blame him, but not to take it out on Ju Gyeong. If he does, Su Ho won’t hold back.

Soo Jin tells Soo Ah and Ju Gyeong that Se Yeon was close to Su Ho and Seo Jun. They talk about his suicide as Se Yeon’s song plays in the background. The scene flashes back to the night of Se Yeon’s suicide. Su Ho was upset and didn’t answer Se Yeon’s phone call. Su Ho rushed to the scene of the suicide and sees a gurney with a body. A bloody arm falls out of the white sheet, with the same matching bracelet that Su Ho has. Su Ho sees Se Yeon’s phone with the picture of the three friends on the back. He falls to the ground, crying. At the school, Su Ho is bent over after hearing Se Yeon’s song/ Ju Gyeong tries to help him, but he yells at her to go. Seo Jun watches them both from the sidelines.

Back at home, Ju Gyeong drops Su Ho’s jacket. She recognizes the initials on the back. She finally realizes that it was Su Ho that stopped her the night she stood on the ledge depressed and thinking about suicide. Ju Gyeong remembers the conversation she had with Su Ho, about how people would miss her and blame themselves for her death. How those people who couldn’t save her would be miserable for the rest of their lives. Ju Gyeong takes off running to where Se Yeon died. She finds Su Ho sobbing. Ju Gyeong wraps him in a hug and pats him on the back as he cries. She cries with him.

Thoughts: Su Ho’s cold side makes a full appearance. How could he just ignore Ju Gyeong’s heartbroken face when she asked him if he truly pitied her? Gutted. And still Ju Gyeong drops everything to make sure he’s okay, knowing that he’s hurting after hearing Se Yeon’s song. Seo Jun seems to develop some genuine feelings for Ju Gyeong after learning that she helped his little sister. Ju Gyeong’s sister is still my favorite character.

Su Ho heads to the comic bookstore and sits next to Ju Gyeong’s drawing. He remembers when they were little. Su Ho was crying while reading “The Cursed Mask” and Ju Gyeong tried to cheer him up with silly dancing. Ju Gyeong calls him her guardian angel for guarding her bare face. He asks if her bare face really bothers her that much. She says she’s two extremes. A stack of books almost falls on Ju Gyeong’s head and Su Ho saves her. Su Ho tells her he can’t tell the difference. Ju Gyeong asks if his eyes are okay and gets very close to his face. She notices his busted lip from his fight with Seo Jun. She reaches up to touch his lip. Just then, the comic book store owner comes in. Su Ho drops the books on Ju Gyeong’s head and then ushers her out of the store telling her she needs to go study.

Seo Jun cuts Ju Gyeong off with his motorcycle the next day at school to ask if she’s dating Su Ho. She says she’s not.

Ju Gyeong’s sister sits at the coffee truck waiting for the hot literature teacher to call.

The girls tell her to sign up for math academy with them. Soo Jin spots Su Ho and asks him to join as well. He rejects her offer. Soo Ah tells Ju Gyeong about the guy she’s setting her up on a blind date with. Su Ho overhears and does not look happy.

Su Ho and Ju Gyeong ride the bus home together. She wishes him luck on his math competition and gives him sweets. Ju Gyeong gets a text from her blind date. She tells Su Ho that the only reason that she’s going is because weird rumors got started after Su Ho and Seo Jun got in their fight. Su Ho tells her that she doesn’t have to go if she doesn’t want to, but Ju Gyeong confesses she’s just nervous because she hasn’t met a guy alone before. The bus driver slams on his breaks and Su Ho catches Ju Gyeong’s head before she gets injured. She’s going to a matinee of a movie with her blind date the next day.

Seo Jun collects his mother from the hospital. All of her numbers look good after her transplant and everything is well. His mom claims she has somewhere to go.

Ju Gyeong has just washed her face at her mom’s eyebrow place when Seo Jun walks in with his mother. It turns out, Seo Jun and Ju Gyeong’s mothers are old friends. Ju Gyeong quickly covers her face with a charcoal mask. Seo Jun spots her and takes pictures.

Back at his apartment, Su Ho notices a lipstick kiss on the palm of his hand from where he saved Ju Gyeong on the bus. He acts like he’s going to kiss it but catches himself and washes his hands.

Ju Gyeong washes off the face mask and does her make up. Seo Jun’s mother compliments her. Ju Gyeong lies and says she has to study tomorrow. Seo Jun rats her out and says she’s going on a blind date. Ju Gyeong tells Seo Jun’s mother that he rides his motorcycle everyday. Seo Jun’s mom makes Ju Gyeong promise to tell her if Seo Jun rides his motorcycle again.

She shows up to the blind date looking like a goddess. The guy immediately tells her she looks better than her picture and buys her bubble tea. He tries to flirt and Ju Gyeong has no idea. Meanwhile, Su Ho works on his math problems for the competition. At the movie, Su Ho is hiding in the crowd. He leans forward when the guy puts his arm around Ju Gyeong and leans in to kiss her. Su Ho leaps over the railing, climbs over the empty seats, and pulls the couple apart only to discover that it’s not Ju Gyeong at all, but the characters from “Extraordinary You”. Ju Gyeong looks over from a few rows up and Su Ho dives down to hide himself. The comic book store owner is sitting right next to him.

After the movie, the blind date asks to see Ju Gyeong again and she agrees. Su Ho witnesses the blind date meet up with his girlfriend after Ju Gyeong leaves.

Ju Gyeong returns home. Her sister compliments her on her outfit and has no idea Ju Gyeong took it from her closet. Ju Gyeong’s mom suggests that instead of going on blind dates that she finds a nice guy like Seo Jun. Ju Gyeong calls him a “total delinquent”. Her mom insists that he is a nice kid and reveals that he took care of his mom after her kidney transplant, got part-time jobs, and paid the hospital bills. Seo Jun’s father died in a traffic accident and that’s why his mom is so worried about the motorcycle.

The blind date texts Ju Gyeong back to tell her that he already has a girlfriend, was trying to have an affair with her, and is total trash. Ju Gyeong sees it as being rejected. Ju Gyeong’s sister finally gets a text from the literature teacher asking for her account number. Rejected as well.

The next day, Ju Gyeong takes a picture of Seo Jun arriving to school on his motorcycle. He threatens her with his own picture of her in the face mask. They chase each other around school. Su Ho witnesses everything.

Soo Ah asks about Ju Gyeong’s blind date. She shows her the text message and Seo Jun laughs that she got dumped.

Su Ho grabs her other arm. Ju Gyeong thinks they’re going to fight in front of her again, so she gives Seo Jun his keys back and pushes them away from each other.

The study group is shocked to find Su Ho waiting for them. They practice math for hours and celebrate by going to coin karaoke. Soo Jin is shocked when Su Ho agrees to join them. The friends all laugh and sing together. Ju Gyeong hears someone singing in another booth that sounds like a professional. It’s Seo Jun, but she doesn’t see him. She does spot his motorcycle outside though. Seo Jun catches her fake kicking his bike. She spots Su Ho and drags Seo Jun away. The guys who beat Seo Jun up in the previous episode spot him. Ju Gyeong grabs his hand and they run. They create a diversion and escape. Su Ho chases after the bullies. The bullies ask if he’s Seo Jun’s friend. They try to take his phone. Su Ho beats all of them, but they eventually grab him and the ringleader punches him in the head. The cops show up and they flee.

Ju Gyeong rides off with Seo Jun on his motorcycle. Su Ho s waiting at the comic book store. Ju Gyeong’s sister shows up wasted. The boys help carry her inside. Ju Gyeong’s sister pukes all over Su Ho’s clothes.

Afterwards, Seo Jun asks Su Ho if he likes Ju Gyeong. He turns it around and asks Seo Jun the same question. Seo Jun says that he thinks he should like her.

The scene flashes back to Su Ho getting up from his math competition and racing out to find Ju Gyeong.

The next day, Su Ho spots Ju Gyeong and tries to catch up with her. Seo Jun comes from the other direction and tosses her his motorcycle keys. He tells her that he plans on only listening to her from now on. Ju Gyeong calls after him, but Su Ho grabs her arm and tells her not to go.

Thoughts: At this point, Seo Jun and Ju Gyeong are more like siblings than anything. They’re constantly teasing and chasing each other around. There’s not really any sort of chemistry like between Ju Gyeong and Su Ho. Su Ho is super cute. He’s innocent and conflicted about his feelings for Ju Gyeong. By the end of the episode, it seems like he fully recognizes his crush. The way he desperately begged her not to chase after Seo Jun was adorable. I love the sweet curiosity they have for each other.

Episode 3 Recap with Spoilers:

Su Ho leads Ju Gyeong away to the girl’s bathroom. Once inside, she immediately gets to work fixing her make up. Su Ho and Seo Jun face off in the hallway outside. Su Ho asks if he returned to school to check up on him and demands he stop tailing him. Ju Gyeong steps outside to thank Su Ho and is faced with Seo Jun. She runs off again.

The class gossips about how they are surprised that Su Ho helped her-he’s never helped anyone before and it must be because she is pretty. Ju Gyeong wonders if it’s because he actually knows about her true face. Ju Gyeong grabs her brother and asks him what he thinks about the situation. He tells her she’s committing “goddess-fraud” and she’s tricking all of these people. Her brother speculates whether Su Ho might be trying to get revenge.

Ju Gyeong can’t stop thinking about what her brother said about Su Ho. She imagines him as a sociopathic vampire waiting to bite her. She screams and runs away from him. In the classroom, Su Ho hands her a copy of his notes from before her transfer.

Su Ho calls Ju Gyeong and tells her to meet him at the comic book store. The lights flicker in the bookstore. Su Ho brought Ju Gyeong some tiramisu as a thank you for lending him “The Cursed Mask”. Su Ho claims there’s a girl at school who looks just like her. She lies and tells him that she attends another school and plans on moving to Canada soon with her grandmother. Su Ho is astounded. He calls her by the name she uses at school and tells her she’s a bad actress. Ju Gyeong tries to deny it. He sees through her excuses. Su Ho leans in and crowds her space. He gets closer and closer to her mouth. He pulls out her hair tie and takes off her glasses. To him, she is Ju Gyeong. Meanwhile, Ju Gyeong’s mother shows up to the bookstore, yelling at her for not studying. She runs out with her mother.

The scene flashes back to Su Ho on the day that Ju Gyeong gave him the bag on the rooftop. He looked inside and saw the comic book with a note that said “thank you for keeping my bare face a secret”. He knew who she was the whole time.

Ju Gyeong is not going down without a fight. She asks Su Ho to meet up early and throws on a smoky eye look. She imagines herself as a warrior. She will not retreat. Ju Gyeong gets down on her knees and begs him not to tell anyone about her bare face. She will do anything he wants. He tells her to get up and asks if she’ll really do anything he wants?

Ju Gyeong’s sister drove to the coffee truck again looking for the hot teacher. Just then, he drives by and his car starts to smoke. Ju Gyeong’s sister asks if he needs help. She grabs the tools from the back of her car to help him change his tire. Badass music plays in the background. He’s clumsy and she laughs at how cute he is. She changes his tire and he tells her about his car. His father gave it to him in 1995. She tells him to buy her dinner if he’s grateful. She asks for his phone and they’re both shocked with static electricity. She says if there’s electricity at dinner, they should date.

Su Ho makes Ju Gyeong do everything for him all day. She runs around and makes a fool of herself. Ju Gyeong runs into Seo Jun in the hallway. He tells her to bring his helmet tomorrow or else.

Su Jin sees Su Ho laughing and smiling at his text messages. She asks what he’s smiling at but he refuses to tell her. Meanwhile, her father texts and tells her they’re having dinner with her teacher. She rushes into the bathroom and frantically scrubs her hands.

The helmet is missing from Ju Gyeong’s room. She attacks her brother. Her mother walks in on them pulling each other’s hair. She forces them to sit on the floor and clip each other’s toe nails while saying “I love you”. Su Ho texts her for a new book. She kisses her bother on the head and runs out to the comic book store. A little kid already has the book. She barters with him by buying him ice cream and then pretending to be a zombie. Su Ho witnesses the whole thing and laughs.

The next day, Ju Gyeong brings Seo Jun a note. Her brother sold the helmet on a website and she promises to return it within a week. The other guys think it’s a love note and beg him to see it. He refuses.

Su Ho continues to make Ju Gyeong run around like crazy. It’s clear that he just wants to hang out with her but she keeps running off too quickly.

Su Jin witnesses an interaction between Seo Jun and Ju Gyeong in the hallway. She interprets it as Seo Jun bullying the new girl. She confronts Seo Jun at his hangout and asks him if he’s a gangster.

Su Ho invites Ju Gyeong to the roof to eat with him. He claims the full spread of food he brought were the leftovers he doesn’t want. She tries to feed him but he rejects her spoon at first. Eventually, he gives in. She gives him some japchae on his spoon and they enjoy lunch together. Ju Gyeong asks to call it even and Su Ho agrees-if she enters the talent show.

Ju Gyeong practices singing with her headphones on. It’s terrible. People in courtyard point and laugh. Ju Gyeong enters the auditorium, but all the lights are off. She grabs the mic, turns on the music, and begins to dance. Su Ho watches with a crowd full of older men. The screen changes to a presentation. Ju Gyeong keeps going. She discovers that it is a school board meeting and the dean does not look happy.

Su Ho lies in bed with Ju Gyeong’s hair tie and thinks about her dancing.

Seo Jun visits his mom in the hospital. As he leaves, a celebrity passes through with a crowd of adoring female fans. Seo Jun gives him a look of absolute disgust and loathing. We can assume it’s his father.

Meanwhile, Ju Gyeong returns home after her embarrassing dance fiasco to face a mother who basically calls her ugly to her face. Ju Gyeong retreats to her room. Her brother returns Seo Jun’s helmet. Ju Gyeong’s bully from her former school likes her Instagram post. Ju Gyeong thinks that if she uploaded her bare face everyone would hate it. Su Ho texts and asks for the next comic book. Ju Gyeong runs out to get it. It starts to downpour. Her glasses fog up and she accidentally runs into a drunk guy. Him and his group of friends begin to insult her and call her ugly. He throws a beer can at her. Others crowd around and watch. Ju Gyeong thinks about all he insults she has received in the past. She finally reaches Su Ho. He spots her bleeding knee and asks if she has an umbrella. She assumes he wants her to go buy one for him. She starts to cry and asks why everyone hates her because she’s ugly. She wonders what the point is of looking good with make up, it doesn’t change that she is still ugly. She tells him that he shouldn’t play around with someone else’s pain and secrets. Su Ho takes off his jacket and wraps her in it. He tells her to stay there for a bit and runs off into the rain. Su Ho rushes back to her. Seo Jun witnesses the whole interaction. Su Ho cleans Ju Gyeong’s injury and bandages her wound. He apologizes to her. Seo Jun speeds off on his motorcycle

The next day Seo Jun confronts Su Ho in the cafeteria and accuses him of being happy after killing a friend. He knocks Su Ho’s tray out of his hands and sits by Ju Gyeong. Everyone stares. Ju Gyeong asks if it’s about his helmet. He smiles and says he wants to eat with her. Su Ho rushes over and pulls Seo Jun from the chair, grabbing him by the collar.

Thoughts: One thing that I don’t quite get is how Seo Jun is so full of himself. In the Webtoon he’s so understated. Like yes, everyone knows he’s sexy, but he’s kind of just okay with himself. Here he’s super arrogant. Maybe the goal is to make us prefer Su Ho but everyone already has their preference. What I adore about this series is Ju Gyeong’s family! They’re so lively and likable. It’s impossible not to laugh at their encounters. It’s almost reminiscent of Boys Over Flowers and Jandi’s family. By the end of the episode it looks like Seo Jun is ONLY interested in Ju Gyeong to get back at Su Ho, putting him in prime villain spot. It’s hard to determine his true intentions at this point and it gives Su Ho an unfair advantage in the love triangle that is destined to develop.

I’m feeling a bit conflicted about Su Ho. Yes, he’s sweet to Ju Gyeong sometimes but such a jerk the other times to everyone, like he’s an elitist snob. Seo Joon is an open bad boy and jerk, so it’s nothing unexpected for him. Really I’m not too pleased with either of them at this point, though Su Ho has some redeeming qualities.

On a side note, I LOVE the subplot between Ju Gyeong’s sister and the hot literature teacher at her school. It’s cheesy and somehow sexy in a nerdy way.

Ju Gyung heads to the bookstore to get the latest copy of “You Are the Devil” when she runs into Su Ho. They fight over the last copy of the book and Ju Gyung falls on top of Su Ho. Ju Gyung worries that Su Ho will recognize her and hurridly gives him the book. She tries to flee but the bookstore owner made her ramen with expensive organic eggs she can’t refuse. They sit together and read their comic book. Ju Gyung tries to initiate a conversation but fails miserably. Ju Gyung returns home and is mocked by her brother, Ju Young. Su Ho asks the bookstore owner about Ju Gyung and the owner asks if he’s interested. Su Ho denies it.

Ju Gyung literally runs into Su Ho and almost falls, he stares and then walks away. Some random girl took his picture. Su Ho snatches her phone and threatens her until she deletes it.

Hee Gyung orders an iced Americano at a coffee cart and sees a silly guy in the street. She’s interested and believes he’s a teacher at her siblings’ school.

Ju Gyung runs into the girls from her former school at the beauty store. She has a flashback of water poured over her head in the bathroom stall. Ju Gyung begins to cry and flees, unable to risk facing them.

Motorcycles speed through the street chasing after Seo Jun. He hides but crashes into Ju Gyung, wiping out on his bike. He takes off running as the other motorcycle guys give chase. Ju Gyung holds onto his helmet and waits. The guys throw a few punches, talking about how Seo Jun is the reason they lost all their money. One throws a punch at his face, but Seo Jun tells him anywhere but the face.

Ju Gyung is stunned by Seo Jun’s visuals. She tries to escape, trips and almost falls. Seo Jun grabs her backpack. Embarrassed, Ju Gyung runs off with his helmet. Seo Jun recognizes her school uniform.

Su Ho is practicing at the gym when he is confronted by his father. They wrestle. Su Ho flashes back to wrestling with his father in the past, his mother coding in the hospital, his father having an affair with a younger woman. Back in the present, Su Ho beats his father. His father asks him to move back into his house but Su Ho says he doesn’t want to be known as his son.

Su Ho and Ju Gyung run into each other at the bookstore. She tries to hide and falls off the step stool, Su Ho catches her, then pushes her away. He accuses her of always jumping on him when he sees her. Su Ho recognizes her. He says her eyes are different. She asks him if he’s going to expose her. He thinks she’s talking about the time she almost jumped off the roof. He agrees not to tell. She doesn’t believe him because he’s a “sociopath”. She presents him with a confidentiality agreement that he signs when he learns she has a signed first edition of “The Cursed Mask”. He asks her what else she wants. He waits on her and does her bidding all day. He confesses that it’s his birthday at the comic book store as they eat ramen. He accuses her of staring when he eats, she chokes on her food and a ramen noodle comes out of her nose. After lots of awkwardness, she gives him a rare card for his birthday and they part ways.

JU Gyung packs “The Cursed Mask” to bring Su Ho to school on Monday. She takes the bus and some pervert takes pictures up her skirt. Su Jin grabs the pervert’s phone but he runs off the bus. Su Jin chases him down, throws her backpack and takes him down until the police take him away.

Seo Jun returns to school. He and Su Ho face off in the courtyard.

Gossip begins around school about Seo Jun’s return. That he beat a student half to death and had to leave. Ju Gyung continues to wink at and flirt with Su Ho. She whispers in his ear to come to the rooftop. He doesn’t recognize her. He thinks she’s some obsessed fan that has a crush on him. He tells her to leave him alone. He grabs the gift and goes. Ju Gyung realizes that he has no clue who she is but will if he looks in the bag. She chases after him and grabs the bag. They fight over it until she tells him it contains sanitary pads.

Later that night, Su Ho calls Ju Gyung and tells her to bring what she promised. She’s confused about which version of herself he’s expecting and even more so about how he got her phone number. She imagines picking the wrong version of herself and him calling her out. She makes up half her face and leaves the other side undone. She finally comes to the decision to put on Seo Jun’s helmet to meet Su Ho. She pretends to fumble in her bag for the gift until Su Ho asks for the comic book. He bought her a hot drink, she steals his straw and begins to drink. Everyone is staring. She takes off for the bathroom so she can remove the helmet. When she returns, she asks Su Ho about the secret but discovers nothing.

The next day at school, Ju Gyung returns Su Ho’s school jacket. Boys and girls play dodgeball. Su Ho and Seo Jun face off for an aggressive game. Ju Gyung’s dodgeball rolls over by Seo Jun. She tries to grab the ball and Seo Jun asks her for his helmet. She tries to distract him and he gets hit in the head with the dodgeball. Ju Gyung runs away.

It’s Soo Ah’s 100th day with her boyfriend. He throws a celebration complete with dance, signs, cake, and flowers. Everyone is laughing and celebrating the cringey festivities when one of the guys throws the cake and it hits Ju Gyung straight in the face. Ju Gyung is terrified that everyone will see her ugly face if she wipes off the cake. She runs from the classroom. They chase after her. They surround her in the hallway. Ju Gyung imagines how they would react if they saw her real face. Out of the crowd, Su Ho comes and covers her with his jacket, pulling her to safety. Seo Jun watches as they leave.

Thoughts: This is wildly different than the Webtoon but still good. Somehow Ju Gyung has managed to be more cringey. There’s a great balance between her kind heart, her insecurities, and her awkwardness. The episode does seem a little disconnected and drags in some places. I wish there were more interactions between the trio but judging by the final scene, the drama is definitely coming. Overall, funny and almost too embarrassing to watch.
